About Bharathi

“Abbotsford has been very good to me and my family. With a spirit of service, I want to work towards furthering the city to make it an inclusive, safe and friendly home for families just like mine.” – Bharathi

Bharathi Sandhu has served for years as an advocate in her community and has an exceptional track record of volunteerism and public service. She was elected as a director for the Fraser Valley Indo-Canadian Business Association from 2008-2019, and sat as the President for 3 of those years. Bharathi has held a position as director with Dasmesh Punjabi School, Abbotsford Hospice and is the current vice president of the Fraser River Funeral Home. In her 40 years she has been able to learn and give back to her community through volunteering her time.

Bharathi has enjoyed everything Abbotsford has to offer and remarks on the growth of the city with pride. She specifically remembers having to drive her mother to Surrey for cancer treatments, and is happy that no family around Abbotsford will have to do that again due to the expansion of Abbotsford Regional Hospital, and the BC Cancer center here. This is an example of one of the things that inspired Bharathi to consider running for city council, so she is able to help in the development of the city that she loves to call home.

She prides herself on tangible deliverables that she can see, for her time served on each of these boards. Bharathi wishes to translate that experience into service to the City of Abbotsford.
